Finding meaning in this mess

What is happening?! Remember saying I wish things would just slow down a bit! Now it's here and so are the challenges. We have stripped away our normal routines. Even people who love shaking things up a bit are saying- hey wait a minute! More stillness in our days is hard. Some have lost the distractions we've so relied on. No sports, no kids sports, no let's meet for dinner, grab a drink for happy hour, come on over tonight... Turns out slowing down is harder than we thought. 
Some houses right now are louder than normal and some are much more quiet. Things are upside down. Although our schedules may be quite empty our heads are not. You might be finding your mind is running all the time. The what ifs, how will I, what will we do, how long is this going to last...Turns out we use a lot of distractions to not feel our feelings and deal with what is right in front of us. Without those distractions things can be intense.
We have an opportunity right now. What comes out of this time will be different for each of us. Each family is finding their own way. Creating new habits, new routines, new ways of relating with each other. For all those extra feelings coming up- journal about it. The act of writing can help your brain process things differently and decrease ruminating. Call and talk with a trusted friend. Don't keep these feelings bottled up inside. Pray or meditate. I believe this a time for our faith lives to grow exponentially. Move your body. Our minds and bodies are connected and physically moving can help calm the mind. Get outside to do it if possible! Sleep and rest. Our bodies can not function if we are not sleeping!
Here is to finding some meaning in all this mess!
